Just cuz you feel it, doesn’t mean its there…

October 7th is Thom Yorke‘s birthday. So I am happily somewhat obligated to go with this birthday theme that I already did with the Bruce Springsteen / Bill Murray #MusicMonday post two weeks ago.

Thom Yorke is the lead singer of Radiohead and Atoms for Peace, many of you may very well know who he is and adamantly hate his and his multiple bands’ music. He has that effect on people. Personally I think he’s fucking brilliant. So I made him (and you) a special playlist for his birthday, from what was available on Spotify.

Happy fucking birthday Thommy Boy!

Iiiiiiits Monday! And I fucking love Mondays! Because here at Play It Black its #MusicMonday, and this one’s definitely special.

Today, September 22nd sits between two important dates: on September 21st, 1950, Bill Murray was born, and slightly less than a year earlier, September 23, 1949, Bruce Springsteen, aka “The Boss” came into the world. So lets wish these two gangsters a Happy Happy Happy Happy Birthday from Play It Black by taking a look at some of my favorite videos!

In honor of the release of season 8 of Trailer Park Boys on Netflix, I’m throwin’ up my favorite album of Ricky, Julian, and Bubbles favorite band. That’s right, it’s Rush’s 2112.

A little history of this album: despite the pleadings of Mercury Records at the time for the band to not do another “concept” album (after the semi-commercial failure of the previous album, Caress of Steel), members Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Pert wrote this sci-fi masterpiece telling a dystopian story set in the year 2112. It became their breakthrough album, and eventually lead to this glorious moment where Ricky kidnaps Alex Lifeson:
