HAWK’s NFL DIVISIONAL ROUND PICKS: 2017 Edition
Picked 3 of 4 correct winners in the Wildcard Round last week. 4 more to pick this week as we enter the second round of the playoffs.
Saturday Night Divisional Playoffs
#3 Seattle Seahawks (11-5-1) at #2 Atlanta Falcons (11-5)
(-5.0) (O/U 51.5) 1:35 PM Fox
We start the second round of the playoffs with a good one. These two teams faced off during week 6. It was played in Seattle and the Seahawks pulled off a dramatic 26-24 victory.
Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman and Falcons leading receiver Julio Jones went toe to toe the whole game, but Jones got the better of him, statistically anyways. He had 7 catches for 139 yards and a Td on 9 targets. But it was Sherman that had a crucial stop on 4th and 10 in the final 1:39 of the game that would end the Falcons final attempt at a comeback.
Stopping the best receiver in the NFL is no small task but Seattle’s depleted secondary that is missing Earl Thomas will have to do just that. Sherman was not guarding Jones every play last game but he may have to be in this time. Atlanta struggled to run the ball against the Seahawks in the week 6 matchup, which is no surprise. Few teams in the league have been able to run against Bobby Wagner and company this season as they rank 7th best in the league.

A great start to the NFL playoffs last week as we had two of four games have insane finishes. For the first time in history all four road teams won on wildcard weekend, which makes sense considering all the away teams were starting quarterbacks with playoff experience and all the home teams had quarterbacks starting in their first playoff games.
As is so often the case it was veteran leadership that won out. 7 quarterbacks left have played in and won a playoff game (Carson Palmer is the exception) and 5 of the 8 starting quarterbacks left have won a Super Bowl, so expect a dramatic finish to the season.
It will be Tom Brady vs Alex Smith, Ben Roethilsberger vs Peyton Manning, Russell Wilson vs Cam Newton and Aaron Rodgers vs Palmer. Talk about madness.
A last second change from the Packers to the Redskins prevented me from a clean sweep of picks, but 3-1 ain’t so bad. let’s keep it going.

Hawk’s Preview of the AFC West, which includes the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, and San Diego Chargers.
No one expected Denver’s offense to match its record breaking output of 2013, where they averaged 340 yards and nearly 38 points a game, but their 2014 version was pretty damn good too. They averaged 291.3 yards a game, 4th highest in the league and 30.4 points a game, 2nd highest. Leading the charge in 2015 again will be Peyton Manning
whom enters his 4th year as a Bronco. 39 year old, hes a future 1st ballot Hall of Famer
and has had a remarkable career. His 530 career TD passes is an NFL record, and at 69,691 career passing yards he should easily break Brett Favre
‘s NFL record of 71,838 yards this season.
Despite dealing with a torn quad the last month of the season Manning still managed to throw for 4,727 yards (4th most in the NFL) and 39 Td’s, 2nd most in the league.
Once again Manning’s favorite receiver was Demaryius Thomas whose 111 catches for 1,619 yards receiving was 2nd only to Pittsburgh’s Antonio Brown in both categories. He also scored 11 times.

Hawk is a very busy man but he still took the time to give us his opinion on who’s gonna rule the gridiron in the second week of this glorious NFL season. Like the College Football Picks, we weren’t able to post one last week, so welcome to the first edition! I was gonna put up a highlight video of the Seahawks 36-16 dismantling of the Green Bay Packers in Week 1, but I can’t really find one to embed. Just click on the hyperlink that says “36-16”
