HAWK’s NFL WILDCARD ROUND PICKS: 2017 Edition

Finished the regular season 7-9, Which puts my season record at 137-117-2. But just like that it is the best time of the year: The NFL playoffs.

DoubleB may disagree with me as he believes that March Madness is the best time of the year. He has a point, and a good argument, but in my humble opinion NFL playoffs get the edge, just slightly. That being said I still have gone to Las Vegas for March Madness for the last seven years, and it is a damn good experience.
So let’s rock and roll. ITS WILDCARD TIME!!!!

Saturday Night Wildcard games
#5 Oakland Raiders (12-4) at #4 Houston Texans  (9-7)
(-3.5) (O/U 36.5)
1:35 PM

Let me preface this by saying that I respect Raider fans as i’ve said many times before.
This is the first time in 13 years that they have had a winning season. Facebook wasn’t even invented last time they made the playoffs, yet “Raider Nation” has stood by their team the whole time.

Hawk’s NFL Picks: Green Bay at Detroit (Thursday Night Football)

Green Bay Packers (7-4) at Detroit Lions (4-7)(+3.0)
(46.5 O/U)
Green Bay’s downfall continued as they lost to Chicago on Thanksgiving. Aaron Rodgers struggled for most of that game and the Packers were only able to muster up 13 points in a 17-13 defeat. He is currently in the worst two game stretch of his career as far as completion percentage goes.
Clearly Rodgers misses Jordy Nelson, whom tore his ACL in a preseason game and is out for the year.

Hawks NFL Picks: Week 12 Thanksgiving Day Edition

By Brent “The Hawk” Walker

Hawks-NFL-Picks-Week-12-tnf

Philadelphia Eagles (4-6) at Detroit Lions (3-7)
Line: DET -2.5
45.5 O/U
As per tradition the Detroit Lions will be playing on Thanksgiving. Apparently the tradition started in 1934 and with the exception of 1939-1944 during WWII have played every Turkey Day since.
Detroit seems to have tightened up their defense as of late, holding down the Packers and Raiders in back to back games and finds themselves on a two game winning streak.
Philadelphia has not looked good all year and got shellacked 45-17 last week by an average Tampa Bay team behind poor QB play of Mark Sanchez, whom threw 3 picks and is currently playing in place of the injured Sam Bradford. Bradford is not expected to play in this game either.
Pick: Lions 23 Eagles 13

Jay Cutler became something of a joke last season, He threw for 3812 yards and 28 Td’s but led the league with 24 turnovers.(18 picks, 6 fumbles). I don’t know those numbers will get much better in 2015 after Chicago traded Brandon Marshall to the Jets. . Cutler and Marshall had a rapport few QB-Receivers in the league do after playing together for 6 years, 3 of those at Denver from 2006-2008 and 3 together at Chicago from 2012-2014.
Marshall played through an ankle injury most of 2014 but suffered broken ribs and an injured lung and missed the final 3 games of the season. Because of these injuries  Marshall failed to top 80 catches and 1000 yards for the first time since 2006.
This loss will make 4th year player Alshon Jeffrey the unquestioned #1 target for Cutler. Jeffrey is a turning into a fine player. He had 85 catches for 1133 yards and 10 TD’s in 2014 and 89 catches for 1,421 yards and 7 TDs in 2012. With their first round pick, 7th overall the Bears selected West Virginia standout Receiver Kevin White whom was considered one of the top receivers in the draft and were hoping he would become the #2 receiver for them but unfortunately he may miss the season with a stress fracture in his shin.
Matt Forte will once again be the go to back for Chicago. Forte has been one of the best in the business for his entire 7 year career averaging 1,100 yards and 6 Td’s a season. He is a hell of a receiver too he was fantasy gold last season, not only piling up 1038 yards and 6 Td’s but catching 102 balls, an NFL running back record, for 808 yards and 4 Td’s.  Chicago added RB’s Jacquizz Rodgers from Atlanta in free agency and drafted Jeremey Langford but I don’t expect either player to take many reps from him.
