Hawk’s 2016 NFL Picks: Cardinals at 49ers

Arizona Cardinals (1-3) at San Francisco 49ers (1-3)
(+3.5) (O/U 43.0)
Arizona is falling apart as I expected they would before the season started.
Here’s the truth, the Cards have a very predictable offense. They take deep shots down field over and over again. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t. It worked out last season, often, but it seemed to have more to do with luck then skill.
This is the NFL. You can’t play like that. Defenders are too fast, skilled and in shape. It is essential in this league to mix it up and make short throws to be successful, and that is not Arizona’s skill set. Even worse for the Cardinals is that Carson Palmer is out with a concussion this game and Drew Stanton will start in his place.

That’s bad news because Stanton is absolutely terrible. His claim to fame so far is a stupid celebratory dance he did in a game against the Seahawks when he wasn’t even playing.

Hawk’s 2016 NFL Picks: Week 1

Picking winners in week 1 is a crap shoot. You just never know what good teams from last year will fall apart this and what bad team will step it up and become playoff contenders. But I am committed again this year so let’s get right to it.

Green Bay Packers at Jacksonville Jaguars
(+4.5) (O/U 48.0)

Everyone always like picking the Packers. They have a high powered offense with Aaron Rodgers, and Jordy Nelson is back after missing all of last season.
But you know who else has a high powered offense? This Jaguars team. Blake Bortles threw for 4428 yards and 35 TD’s last year. Mainly to his two elite receivers Allen Robinson (1,400 yards, 14 Td’s) and Allen Hurns, ( 1,031 yards, 10 Tds) their defense needs work but they can keep up with the Packers high paced offense.
Pick: Jaguars

Hawk’s NFL Picks: Championship Sunday Edition

It’s with a heavy heart that I write this as the Seahawks season is now officially over, which sucks, but I must remind myself that this team isn’t going anywhere and should be a Super Bowl contender next year as well. I knew before the year started that 3 straight Super Bowls would be a tall order but I still held on to hope. As hard as it will be to write this, the show must go on, especially with only 3 games left, just don’t expect me to ramble on like usual. still in Seahawks mourning.

AFC CHAMPIONSHIP
Sunday, January 24, 12:05 PM, Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Denver, Colorado
 2) New England Cheaters (13-4) at 1) Denver Broncos (13-4) (+3.0)
(45 O/U)

This will be the 17th time that Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have faced off, I assume that ESPN is ranting about this every second of every day.  I haven’t had the heart to watch anything that will talk about this years NFL playoffs this week, but assuming this is a safe bet.

Hawk’s NFL Picks: Divisional Saturday Edition

By Brent “The Hawk” Walker
A great start to the NFL playoffs last week as we had two of four games have insane finishes. For the first time in history all four road teams won on wildcard weekend, which makes sense considering all the away teams were starting quarterbacks with playoff experience and all the home teams had quarterbacks starting in their first playoff games.
As is so often the case it was veteran leadership that won out. 7 quarterbacks left have played in and won a playoff game (Carson Palmer is the exception) and 5 of the 8 starting  quarterbacks left  have won a Super Bowl, so expect a dramatic finish to the season.
It will be Tom Brady vs Alex Smith, Ben Roethilsberger vs Peyton Manning, Russell Wilson vs Cam Newton and Aaron Rodgers vs Palmer. Talk about madness.
A last second change from the Packers to the Redskins prevented me from a clean sweep of picks, but 3-1 ain’t so bad. let’s keep it going.

Hawk’s NFL Picks: Week 10

By Brent “The Hawk” Walker

Ouch!! 5-8 last week.

This year is nearly impossible to predict. 72-60 on my NFL Picks for the year. Must get better.

Hawks-NFL-Picks-Week-10
Team byes: Atlanta Falcons, Indianapolis Colts, Detroit Lions, San Diego Chargers, San Francisco 49ers
New Orleans Saints (4-5) at Washington Redskins (3-5) (+1.0)
(50.5 O/U)
The red hot Saints of the last month or so appeared to cool off last week, defeated by a very weak Titans team 34-28 in overtime.
Washington has a pretty good pass defense that ranks 9th best so if the Saints have indeed cooled off like I think they have, Washington has a good chance here.

Pick: Redskins

Arizona Cardinals
Arizona was easily the most surprising team of the year in 2014. Through 9 games they were 8-1 and a favorite to win the NFC behind Carson Palmer, but in a week 10 game against the Rams the quarterback was done for the year with a torn ACL. Backup QB Drew Stanton started in his place, he looked good at times but was  wildly inconsistent and he too would get injured, leaving Ryan Lindley as the starting QB and he was terrible. Arizona would drop 4 of their last 6 and finish 11-5, only good enough for a wildcard against the Panthers, where they would lose 27-16 in historically terrible fashion. As a team they only had 78 total yards, a playoff record low.
Arizona expects Palmer to be completely healthy and follow up a season in which he threw for 1,626 yards, 11 Td’s and 3 Int’s in only 6 games, and boy will they need him.
