Hawk’s 2016 NFL Picks: Week 1

Picking winners in week 1 is a crap shoot. You just never know what good teams from last year will fall apart this and what bad team will step it up and become playoff contenders. But I am committed again this year so let’s get right to it.

Green Bay Packers at Jacksonville Jaguars
(+4.5) (O/U 48.0)

Everyone always like picking the Packers. They have a high powered offense with Aaron Rodgers, and Jordy Nelson is back after missing all of last season.
But you know who else has a high powered offense? This Jaguars team. Blake Bortles threw for 4428 yards and 35 TD’s last year. Mainly to his two elite receivers Allen Robinson (1,400 yards, 14 Td’s) and Allen Hurns, ( 1,031 yards, 10 Tds) their defense needs work but they can keep up with the Packers high paced offense.

Hawks NFL Picks: Titans at Jaguars (Thursday Night Football)

By Brent “The Hawk” Walker

Tennessee Titans (2-7) at Jacksonville Jaguars (3-6)
Line: Jax -3
42 O/U

Talk about a stinker of a Thursday Night game. Both of these teams have struggled all season, but as per usual I am going with the home team in this situation. I actually think the Jaguars are just the better team in general here, and call me crazy but I still think they are an up and coming team.
2nd year QB Blake Bortles actually has two really good receivers to throw to in the the two Allen’s, Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns whom are also both in their second year. Robinson has 45 catches for 758 yards and 7 Td’s and Hurns has 41 catches for 697 yards and 7 TD’s. Seeing those two guys compete with a Titans passing defense that is ranked third in the league could be interesting. We will see what those guys are made of.
The other young gun in this game is Marcus Mariota, who has had an up and down season, which is to be expected out of rookie qb. I think he will eventually turn into a franchise player, but before that can happen they need to give him so more weapons to throw to. He has a good tight end in Delanie Walker whom is his leading receiver but there is a significant drop off in his potential targets from there. Neither Kendall Wright nor Justin Hunter are talented enough to be #1 or #2 receivers on essentially any other team and he has no choice but to throw to them.
Tennessee needs a decent running back as well to take some of the pressure off of Mariota. They don’t have a running back that has run over 300 yards yet and this is week 11. Tennessee’s lack of offensive talent will most likely cost them in this game.
Pick: Jaguars 20 Titans 17
