2001: A Space Odyssey’s Digital Restoration Has A New Trailer (+Gallery)

HAL: “I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I’ve still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission. And I want to help you”…

2001-Re-Release-3

I’ve been under the weather the last couple of days and it pretty much sucks ass. Buuuut I saw this great news and knew I wouldn’t be taking the day off from Play It Black, although my energy levels won’t let me do much more than this post today. You may see me quietly kicking some ass on Twitch later tho, speaking in my now extremely nasally and stuffed up voice, coughing regularly into the mic, etc. Hell, you may even see me nod off in the middle of a game session. I’m that worn out from this…cold I guess you would call it.

Also, look for the new Wednesday Video Dump tomorrow. Those are fun…

Anyways, back to work.

2001: A Space Odyssey, directed by the late, great Stanley Kubrick (The Shining, Full Metal Jacket) has received the digital restoration treatment and will premiere on November 28th at the British Film Institute‘s (BFI) “Sci-Fi: Days of Fears and Wonder” celebration. The BFI and Warner Bros also commissioned the first new trailer for the film in forty years.

Every time I watch this film (at least once a year) I’m reminded that it came out a full ten years before the first Star Wars. That’s insane. Here’s that trailer. Click on any of the pics below it for a gallery.

The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies Posters Gallery

“It does not do to leave a live dragon out of your calculations, if you live near him”…

I’m just now starting to get a little pumped for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. I guess that’s the way I’m rolling these days, because I generally don’t get too jacked about anything until its close to happening. Unless you count Episode VII, of course. The “Defining Chapter” of The Hobbit Trilogy hits cinemas December 12th in the UK, December 26th in the US, and December 26th in Australia (hey, I had the wikipedia page pulled up so I might as well have given you the information on all three dates, plus I hear that people live in those places and I know that people from those places look at this site).

Anyways the movies’ Twitter account has been slamming out a bunch of new posters and banners over the last few days. I’ve put every one I could find (plus the rad SDCC poster) in my short amount of time in the gallery below, just click on any one of em to start a slideshow. And for those of you who haven’t seen a trailer yet, heres that too:

Brad Bird’s “Tomorrowland” Has its first Teaser

┬áThat shot remind anyone of The NeverEnding Story?…

Tomorrowland-Trailer

I’m a huge fan of director Brad Bird‘s work. The big 3: Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. Now he’s got a new live-action sci-fi film hitting theaters on May 22nd, 2015, called Tomorrowland, starring George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, and Britt Robertson, amongst others. Heres a vague synopsis from Wikipedia (there are much more in depth sysnopsis’ out there that give away a lot if you just google it):

Frank (George Clooney) and Casey (Britt Robertson) travel to a place somewhere in time and space only known as Tomorrowland, where their actions directly affect the world and themselves.

Here’s the first teaser:

Doesn’t that city look a lot like Fantasia from NeverEnding Story?
